AAM has acquired land-use rights for approximately 30 acres in an industrial park in Changshu city and will construct a 175,000 square-foot, wholly-owned manufacturing plant for driveline systems.
Ground-breaking is planned for next spring with preliminary production scheduled for late 2006.
In a statement, AAM said the city of Changshu has one of the 10 largest ports in China so its location will allow excellent geographic access to all vehicle manufacturers throughout Asia.
Noted AAM chairman & CEO Richard Dauch in a statement: “China and the continent of Asia represent a rapidly growing market with significant opportunities. We are expanding in Asia to provide products to our customers in that region, while at the same time continuing to profitably grow our North American and European market share.”
