Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) president Mitch Bainwol is to become president and CEO of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers on 1 September according to Dow Jones.

Bainwol has led the RIAA since 2003 and prior to that was chief of staff to former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (Republican), was chief of staff for the Republican National Committee and was a budget analyst in the White House of Ronald Regan.

He follows Dave McCurdy, who resigned as the Alliance’s CEO in December to lead the American Gas Association.

“Bainwol stands at the crossroads of two worlds,” said Jake Jones, vice president of external affairs and public policy at Daimler, an Auto Alliance member. “He not only knows how Capitol Hill works, but he also understands business models and the demands of the marketplace.

“He has a reputation as someone who brings people together and we anticipate he will be an effective and collaborative partner in steering the auto industry forward toward greater sustainable mobility.”

For his part, Bainwol said it was a “privilege” to represent the industry in a “dynamic time.
