Wales’ post-16 education and training body, ELWa, has allocated £750,000 over the next three years to assist manufacturing companies in the Welsh automotive supply chain to train their workforce in a wide variety of manufacturing skills.
This joint project under the banner of three organisations, Education and Learning Wales, the Welsh Automotive Forum and Welsh Development Agency, will be available across Wales to Tier 1 and SMEs.
In the first year the programme will focus on production managers and team leaders and include a master-class, team leader, basic quality tools, inventory management and problem solving courses.
It is expected that over 500 people in the sector will benefit during the first £240,000 phase of the project. The Welsh automotive sector employs over 25,000 people in 200 manufacturing companies and earns around £2.8 billion annually.
