The light commercial vehicle manufacturer had a 5.1% share during February 2006, selling 504 vehicles – a 123% increase compared to the same month last year.

Combined sales in the month of January 2006 also showed a year-on-year improvement, rising 26% on 2005, in a market that the company said has otherwise remained static.

LDV secured new investment from Sun Capital in December last year, saving its Drews Lane plant, in Birmingham, from the brink of closure after production had been halted for two weeks.

Interim CEO Charles Megan said: “We are delighted with the sales achievement last month and with full production of the Maxus van range having recommenced we will be pushing to secure the number three position in the UK heavy van sector.”

The Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter van models currently lead the way in the UK light commercial vehicle market.

“We have an award winning range of products on sale today and these will be supplemented with exciting new additions to the range which will be revealed at the commercial vehicle show next month. The sales achievements this year clearly demonstrate that we are back in business,” added Megan.
