On-the-road retails now range from GBP39,999 (US$72,000) for the manual CS6 coupe (previously GBP45,995) to GBP54,995 ($98,900) for the manual-only Z06 (previously GBP62,100).

European versions have a three-year/60,000 mile manufacturer’s warranty and three years’ roadside assistance.

“These revised prices mean customers will save over 11% on previous prices,” GM said in a statement announcing the price cuts. “The latest generation high performance, legendary American sportscar remains the biggest bang per buck available in the UK.”

GM sold just one Corvette in August, down from four a year earlier, according to SMMT data. Eleven have been sold year to date, off 73% compared with the 41 units delivered in the first eight months of 2007.

European sales totalled 73 last August versus 99 in 2007, Jato Dynamics analysts told just-auto. YTD totals to the end of August were 869 this year and 983 last year.

A Corvette spokeswoman admitted the price cuts were partly a response to falling sales but said the company had been planning reductions to clear model year 2008 stock for some time.

She added the brand was also keen to lure buyers tempted by a ‘grey import’ (US-specification cars shipped over by private importers) to ‘official’ GM factory-sourced cars with the correct electrics, lighting and other specification changes for the UK and Europe, and with full support from a factory-trained dealer network.

Corvette is promoted as a stand-alone brand in Europe, separate from Chevrolet which sells mainly GM-Daewoo built models from Korea.
