Thierry Dombreval, Toyota’s head of sales in Europe, told Fleet News: “Although we do not yet know how sales will be split, fleets will be a significant element of our overall strategy for the car.
“Company car tax in the UK is going to extremely favourable for the Prius. Its carbon dioxide emissions will place it well within the lowest band for company car tax.”
Dombreval also pointed out that hybrids are exempt from the congestion charge recently introduced in central London and said that this will be a factor helping to support residual values for the car.
He added that Toyota/Lexus plans a three model hybrid range and aims to sell 50,000 hybrid models a year in Europe by 2010, with hybrid models from all makes taking 14% of the market by then.
