Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday (31/7/00) that it is to spend billions of yen in increasing output at its British factory by 30 per cent to around 230,000 vehicles a year in 2001, reports Kyodo News Service/Associated Press (1/8/00).

Currently producing both the Avensis and the five-door Corolla models at a combined rate of 180,000 cars per year at its Derby plant, Toyota is set to begin production of its three-door Corolla hatchback car at the site at a rate of 50,000 per annum.

The company is transferring production of export models from Japan to Britain to reduce risks from the appreciation of the yen and to raise production levels at the plant.
