The honorary doctor of science award recognises Ghosn’s outstanding contribution to the international automotive industry. As head of Nissan, Ghosn conducted a three-year comprehensive revival plan that was completed one full year ahead of schedule.

The director of Cranfield school of management, Professor Leo Murray, said: “We are delighted to be able to acknowledge through the award of an honorary doctorate the remarkable achievements of this successful international businessman who is unique in having been able to manage in a number of different cultures.”

Ghosn said: “I’ve always been and will be ambitious for our company. We have done what we planned because performance is the only and ultimate proof of our revival and the fuel of our credibility. We have transformed a struggling company into a good company and we will transform a good company into a great company. Expect Nissan to be fully revived and solidly built on a foundation for lasting, profitable growth.”
