Three hundred UK drivers filled their cars with the wrong fuel after a delivery bungle at a supermarket’s petrol station, according to the Daily Mirror.

A mix-up by a contract driver led to diesel being pumped through unleaded petrol nozzles for 10 hours, the paper said.

A worker at Asda [a chain owned by American giant Wal-Mart] in Halbeath, Fife, told the Daily Mirror: “It has been a nightmare.”

Motoring experts told the paper the mistake could leave car engines ruined while  Asda said: “We are investigating and if there is any damage we will reimburse customers.”
