The SsangYong Kyron C-S and Rexton C-S are based on the Kyron and Rexton S passenger SUV cars, and converted in the UK with the removal of the rear seats to provide a flat load area, and black tinted rear windows.

Both have four-wheel drive, with the Kyron C-S priced at GBP13,995 and the Rexton C-S at GBP15,995 (excluding delivery and first registration charges, and VAT).

The Korean-based maker of light trucks is owned by Shanghai Automotive (SAIC) and Milan-based automotive distributor Koelliker took over the brand’s UK distribution at the end of last year.

In the UK, SsangYong sold just 1,300 vehicles in 2007 and Koelliker is aiming for 3,000 sales in 2008 as it attempts to revive the brand in Britain.

“This is another example of us walking the talk in terms of identifying niches and a well worked business-to-business strategy,” Koelliker UK Managing Director Paul Williams told just-auto.

“It will take us time to rebuild and expand the brand in Britain but we are making good progress in working with our dealers and bringing them practical and robust products at a highly competitive price that will sell,” he added.

From 2009 through to 2014, SsangYong says it will invest more than 1.9 billion euros in 20 new models based on five different platforms, with five new engines and with monocoque construction.

It’s also likely that Italian styling house Italdesign, founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro, will be involved, having already styled the latest Rexton model.
