Blackpool-based luxury sportscar maker TVR has laid off 140 workers from its factory. The company says this is due to the strength of the UK Pound reducing export demand for its hand-built cars. TVR is also blaming the ‘extraordinary actions of consumer bodies and the government in the drive to force prices down’.

A spokesman for the firm said that it had been ‘the bleakest week in the firm’s 50-year history’. But, with a new more affordable model on the way, the company says it hopes there will be no permanent redundancies.
