Britain’s Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealed it had appointed a new chief executive to lead the body but a six-month notice period was required before he could take up the post.
While confirming a new head for the SMMT, the organisation was unable to provide the identity, apart from saying it was a male.

The six-month notice period presumably indicates someone of considerable stature within the business community to succeed former chief executive, Paul Everitt, who left to join ADS, the aerospace, defence and security operation.
The SMMT previously indicated it had interviewed over 80 candidates for the role with each undergoing what was described as a “Paxman-style grilling” [a reference to BBC television’s Newsnight interviewer Jeremy – ed].
“We [have] hired someone,” SMMT interim chief executive, Mike Baunton, told journalists at the group’s annual Test Day event at Millbrook. “It is a ‘him’ – he has resigned [from his current post] – and we are now working on a start date.
“He has a six-month [notice] period and hopefully we will announce shortly.”
