Skoda is the latest manufacturer to add an eco-friendly sub-brand. Orders are now being taken in the UK for a ‘GreenLine’ Fabia variant than can achieve nearly 69mpg and will be sufficiently low on CO2 emissions to be exempt from London’s Congestion Charge (from 27 October 2008 when new emission rules are introduced).

The 1.4 TDI Fabia GreenLine achievesnearly 69mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 figures of 109g/km.

Skoda claims that in estate guise ‘there is no greener or leaner estate currently on sale in the UK for the money’ though Skoda acknowledges that the Skoda Mini Clubman 1.6D has the same CO2 and mpg figures, but costs GBP3,260 more.

The car’s tweaks over the standard model include additional aerodynamic panels being fitted to the underside of the chassis, the replacement of the spare tyre with a puncture repair kit and the raising of the front bumper by 35mm.

Skoda claims that on the combined cycle a single tank of diesel will produce a range of 689 miles – 75 miles more than the standard 1.4 TDI Fabia 2 on which the GreenLine is based.

The first customer deliveries are expected from the 21st of April.
