BMW Group’s Rolls-Royce has confirmed it will launch a new convertible by mid-2016.

“It will deliver effortless, open-top touring through the perfect marriage of modern Rolls-Royce luxury, style and elegance with an engaging and exhilarating driving experience,” the automaker said.

CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös added: “We are currently developing an exciting and thoroughly contemporary interpretation of a pinnacle drophead tourer.”

The car is in the prototype test phase.

Announcing record sales and profits, BMW said Rolls-Royce sales rose 28.6% to 1,071 units in the second quarter of 2014 and by 33.4% to 1,968 in the first half.
