The first right hand drive versions of DaimlerChrysler’s Smart City Coupe and Cabriolet two-seat city cars will be delivered to British and Japanese customers in early November.
The availability at long last of RHD models will also open up the possibility of selling the innovative little rear-engined cars in countries such as Australia and New Zealand (where new LHD cars are banned) and numerous Far Eastern and Asian RHD markets, though DaimlerChrysler has not confirmed this.

British prices start at £6,295 ($US9,215) on the road for the entry level ‘smart & pure’ with 44bhp turbocharged, three cylinder, 599cc engine. The sporty 61bhp ‘smart & pulse’ is priced from £7,295 ($US10,700) and the luxury 54bhp ‘smart and passion’ starts at £7,995 ($US11,700).
The smart City Cabriolet, also in ‘passion’ trim, is priced from £9,995 ($US14,600).
Standard specification across the British range includes ABS, electronic traction control, driver and passenger airbags, electric windows, remote central locking, rev counter, clock and RDS radio cassette.
