The move comes on top of a healthy export order book. Hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of sub-assemblies and automotive kits made in the UK are already shipped to Spain, Germany and Sweden.

Remploy recently won its first order from Volvo in Sweden. The contract is for cam belt kits supplied to the automaker’s giant aftermarket parts division in Gothenburg.

Roland Heinke, the firm’s key account manager for Euro Hub Operations, is planning a four-day trip to Sweden to give presentations to a number of automotive companies.

He said: “We have been invited to talk to a number of manufacturers who already recognise the specialist service that we can provide. What’s exciting for us is the potential of the market in Scandinavia with big companies such as Volvo, Saab and Scania.

“This is our first big push into these markets and we want to take every opportunity to show our capabilities. We have a great workforce who have built up a knowledge and expertise in all aspects of the automotive business.”

Heinke leaves for Sweden in the second week of February. It is likely that work from any orders won will be carried out at the firm’s Coventry factory in the English Midlands, close to other automotive companies.

Remploy Automotive is part of Remploy Limited, Britain’s largest provider of job opportunities for disabled people, and has plants in Coventry, Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Bridgend, Porth, Abertillery, Derby, Jarrow and Huddersfield.
