The
British motorsport and automotive technology group Prodrive has purchased all
shares in the Tickford group to forming a business worth $US130 million.
Tickford has operations in England and the United States and is a joint venture
partner in Tickford Vehicle Engineering (TVE) in Melbourne, Australia, which
produces sports variants of Ford’s locally-made cars and converts American
Mustangs to right-hand drive.
Another Australian company, Tickford Asia Pacific (TAP), provides engineering
services to TVE and other Ford associate companies in the Asia Pacific region.
Based in Banbury, near Oxford, Prodrive is privately owned and employs 450
staff. It was formed in 1984 by David Richards and now claims to be one of the
largest motorsport companies in the world.

Prodrive has had a long association with Subaru’s rally car programme and recently
produced a limited-edition two-door Impreza sports sedan for the Japanese car
maker’s UK distributor.
For the 2000 motorsport season, Prodrive successfully campaigned Ford Mondeos
to the top three places in the British Touring Car Championship.

with Ford and TAP will have more global resources than ever before,” said
TVE and TAP managing director, David Flint in Melbourne.
He will continue to head up the Australian operations following the change
of ownership.
“The Tickford brand is a very important nameplate in the Ford family,”
said Ford Australia president, Geoff Polites. “The additional resources
Prodrive can offer will help us build upon the strength of the Tickford brand.”
