The centre, on a 150-acre site at Weybridge in Surrey, will be a technological showcase for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and will commemorate the history of the Mercedes-Benz marque and its association with Brooklands. Also included will be 60 acres of community space, country park and riverside nature walks. A flood defence scheme will help protect the Brooklands Museum and local homes.

Geoff Brady, Managing Director DaimlerChrysler Retail Limited said: “Being granted detailed planning permission is a significant milestone for our ongoing Brooklands plans. It secures our vision of creating the Heritage and Technology Centre, and brings wide-ranging benefits to this historic site and to the local community.”

Peter O’Halloran, Director Heritage & Technology Centre added: “Our policy has always been to work together with Elmbridge Borough Council and all stakeholders in the Brooklands area, and we are delighted that our ambitions are being realised.

“We have consulted the public as part of a process that will create a superb 60 acre Community Park, and at the same time have progressed the design work which has enabled us to obtain detailed planning permission for our innovative centre.”

Peter O’Halloran continued: “We are delighted that our detailed designs accurately reflect and interpret the designs put forward at the outline planning stage and have been so positively received by Elmbridge Borough Councillors. These elements all contribute to the enhancement of the Brooklands central area and the protection of this important heritage site.”
