Pi Technology, the high-tech automotive electronics company now part of Ford, is to look into the possibility of entering the aftermarket, writes Ian Wagstaff. Business and Technology Manager Julian Styles says that he plans visiting the Equip Auto show in Paris later this year to investigate the opportunities.

It is felt that Pi’s advanced capabilities would be ideally suited to developing diagnostic tools. The company is currently involved in a wide range of OE projects for a variety of vehicle manufacturers. Development includes control strategies for alternative fuelled vehicles, a rapid prototyping approach to X by wire systems and pioneering work in the area of interior electronics and multimedia. The latter gives it an understanding of technologies such as Bluetooth, which, says Styles, could one day be used in conjunction with vehicle diagnostics.
