Nissan Europe’s entry level Pixo – built by Maruti Suzuki in India – has been updated with new paint colours, improved interior and an engine retune to lower CO2 emissions to 99g/km, dropping it into the free road tax and London congestion charge segment, at least for now.
However, facing falling tax revenue, the UK government is looking at rearranging vehicle excise duty ‘bands’ and London’s mayor, Boris Johnson, is known to be in favour of reducing the congestion charge exemption barrier to 80g. Executives at Toyota’s recent Yaris hybrid launch reckoned the bar would fall to 85g and said they would reduce wheel size on one model to make it compliant.
