Clarion Events, a subsidiary of Earls Court & Olympia Group, announced at a press briefing today that it has been in detailed discussions with the motor industry, following the cancellation of the old London Motor Show in 1999. Clarion believes the result is a unique new event that not only features the best in new automotive design but also provides a powerful marketing platform for this important industry.
Simon Kimble, Managing Director of Clarion Events, said at the briefing: “London is one of the most important and dynamic car markets in the world, but motor shows need to develop to reflect the changing needs of the industry. It became clear that the old London motor show no longer did that, which is why we lost the support of many of the manufacturers.
“We#;ve spent the last six months listening to the industry, which has led to the development of a brand new concept that is both visionary and which reflects the real needs of the manufacturers and the car buying public.”
Moving the show from October to June would occupy a unique slot on the international exhibition calendar that doesn#;t compete with other important international events and coincides with the crucial September registration period.
The theme of the show has also been changed. It will focus on design and reflect London#;s position as one of the great international design capitals.
Added Kimble: “We still have work to do to bring this show to life but early indications from the industry are very positive. The motor industry plays an extremely important role in the success of the UK#;s economy and it is essential that we provide an effective showcase in our capital city.”
The new show will be at the centre of a series of events including the first International Car Designer of the Year Awards, which will celebrate the most innovative designers from the industry world-wide.
