Plans for tolls on British motorways are to be ruled out for the next 10 years, reports the BBC (11/7/00).

The UK Government`s Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions refused to confirm or deny newspaper reports that Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott had dropped plans for the scheme within his transport strategy.

The strategy, due for publication next week, is intended to map out Britain`s public and private transport plans for the next century to combat the ever-increasing volume of traffic on UK roads.
