Thomson in turn replaces Rob Lindley who is moving to a sales role at McLaren Automotive seen as a part of the Formula One firm’s strategy to develop a new range of cars when the existing partnership with Mercedes for the SLR model ends in 2009.

Cameron became Mazda’s marketing director in July 2005 after five months heading a brand team responsible for product strategy.

Like Thomson (who also moved from the marketing director’s seat to direct sales before being named MD), Cameron joined the Japanese brand from shareolder Ford where he spent 11 years in marketing and sales roles, including a two-year secondment to a dealership in Glasgow, Scotland.
