MAN reportedly has claimed damages of GBP300 million plus interest and court costs, but the court hasn’t yet determined how much will be paid.

“Freightliner will appeal against the court’s decision,” DaimlerChrysler spokesman Othmar Stein told Dow Jones Newswires.

MAN reportedly said the court ruled that the company had been deceived about the actual situation at ERF by a manipulated balance sheet, when it bought ERF from Western Star in 2000.

The court said Freightliner is the legal successor of Western Star and thus to be held responsible for the damage claim, MAN said in a statement cited by Dow Jones.
