Group Lotus CEO Mike Kimberley said: “The South Korean market is important to us and we are pleased to have teamed up with such an enthusiastic and professional organisation [which] has so much knowledge and understanding of what Lotus is all about.

“The Lotus brand is well known in South Korea through our world class engineering consultancy division, which has done extensive work with many of South Korea’s car companies and we are looking forward to further increasing our high technology brand reputation in this region.”

Lee Sung Hee, president of LK, said: “Our mission is to captivate not only current Lotus drivers but also to win the hearts and minds of other supercar enthusiasts and first-time sportscar buyers through awareness marketing which will increase the recognition of Lotus brand amongst Korean drivers.”

Lee added: “Looking to the future, Lotus is expanding its line-up to include new products such as a mid range supersports car for launch at the end of 2008 and a stunning high specification supercar that will enter production at the end of 2009.”

The new Lotus showroom will be located in Seoul and LK is currently finalising the opening of a nearby service centre.

The first allocation of nine hand-built cars will arrive in South Korea in early July and the Elise, Exige and Europa ranges will be available from the launch of the brand on 5 July. At the launch event, LK will display one of last year’s British GT3 Championship-winning Sport Exige GT3s to showcase the automaker’s racing technology and demonstrate the strong link between race and road products.

LK is committing $US5,000,000 over the next three years to establish the Lotus brand and service network in South Korea.
