LDV, the Birmingham-based independent van maker, sold 1508 vehicles in December 2000, giving it a full year volume of over 15,000 and a UK market share of 10.1 per cent.
An LDV spokesman said that one contributor to the company’s strong sales performance was its expertise with alternative fuel-powered models. LDV is the only European van maker producing factory-built LPG vehicles.
The company also said that it led the UK’s large minibus sector with two out of every three minibuses sold being from its Convoy range.
LDV also claims to lead the UK home delivery van market, supplying Royal Mail, Parcelforce Worldwide and Business Express.
The van maker was expected to introduce an all-new range developed in conjunction with Daewoo about now but that venture was scrapped late last year when the Korean company ran into financial difficulties.
The spokesman confirmed that discussions about a joint venture were taking place with other automakers, including Volkswagen.
