Land Rover has announced that it will reduce the UK prices of its Freelander, Discovery and Range Rover models by up to 14 per cent. The changes come into effect immediately. New 2001 model-year vehicles, which go on sale in September, will additionally feature higher levels of standard equipment, further boosting their value.
The 1.8i three-door entry-level version of the Freelander, Britain’s and Europe’s best-selling 4×4 vehicle, has its UK recommended retail price cut by £1,000, to £15,995. In addition, it gets an extra £1,215 of standard equipment. The 1.8i three-door Hardback model is now £500 less expensive than it was when the Freelander was launched in 1997 – and is better equipped. All other Freelander models get their prices cut by between £955 and £1,000, and get extra standard equipment features worth between £950 and £1,375.
A new entry-level Discovery model, the E, has been added to the range, costing £21,995. That’s £3,510 less expensive than the previous entry-level Discovery. Other Discovery models get price reductions of up to £2,295 and specification enhancements worth up to £3,190.
The Range Rover gets price reductions of between £995 and £2,705, and also gets higher specification as standard.
Commenting on the pricing action, Land Rover UK’s Managing Director Mike Wright said: ‘There has been a great deal of uncertainty in the UK market. We want to offer something genuine and permanent to our customers, and a straight no-nonsense price cut, allied to higher specification levels, is the best way to do it.’
