This could spell more trouble for Ford as well as Firestone who are currently trying get hold of replacement tyres from their rivals, Goodyear and Michelin, in order to keep up with demands from angry customers.

Dave Leggett, Managing Editor for just-auto.com says, “The situation would appear to be getting uglier and Ford has responded by bringing forward its deadline for replacing all potentionally dangerous Firestone tyres to Spring 2001. Whether this damage limitation will be enough to allay the fears of increasingly worried customers is questionable.”
