BMW’s Mini plant in Oxford, England, has built its last second generation hatchback.
Over 1m of the outgoing hatch models – often referred to as the ‘hardtop’ in North America – were built at Plant Oxford between 2006 and today (28 November, 2013).

Count in generation one from 2001 and the tally is 1,863,289.
According to BMW, 14% of all cars built in the UK last year were Minis which also accounted for 14% of total UK car exports.
The factory has built more than 2.4m vehicles since 2001 when Clubman (wagon), convertible and the more recently launched coupe and roadster are factored in.
Five-door Countryman and three-door Paceman variants are contracted out to Magna Steyr in Austria and also assembled from CKD kits in India and Malaysia.
BMW is also expected soon to add additional capacity at the former Mitsubishi Nedcar plant in Bjorn, the Netherlands.
Local sources have told just-auto BMW will announce details of a Brazilian assembly plant next week and executives have said previously it is possible Mini models eventually could be made there.
The redesigned, third generation Mini hatchback, revealed earlier this month, is scheduled for launch next spring.
