Toyota, Honda and Nissan are all expanding output, while other brands are cutting back. All other makes, apart from Land Rover, do not expect any increase in output, according to Financial Times figures. Even Mini expects a 10% drop in output this year due to temporary closures while the plant is expanded.

MG Rover collapsed last year, and two other plants are under threat of closure. PSA’s Ryton plant has not been allocated another product after the Peugeot 206, and GM’s Ellesmere Port, which builds the Astra, will have to compete with plants in Belgium, Germany and Poland for future business.
