Police are treating the death of a Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) employee last night (26 September) at the manufacturer’s Halewood plant in North West England as “unexplained.”

Neither JLR nor Merseyside Police under whose jurisdiction the factory falls would release details of the fatal incident, although the Liverpool force told just-auto further information could be made available later today.

Officers were called to the JLR factory shortly after 20:00 by paramedics, where they found a local man aged in his late forties being treated for serious injuries.

He was taken to Whiston Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead at around 22.30pm.

The scene was cordoned off and an investigation into how the victim, who was a worker at the site, was fatally injured is now under way.

No-one else was injured during the incident while Merseyside Police and the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are treating the death as “unexplained.”

A post mortem examination will be carried out to establish a cause of death.

“We are saddened to confirm on the evening of 26 September a JLR employee died in hospital following an incident at JLR Halewood operations,” a spokesman for the manufacturer told just-auto. “Representatives from the plant, police authorities
and the HSE are now involved in the investigation into the circumstances which led to this tragic incident.

“The employee’s family has been informed and we extend our sincere condolences to them and their friends. We have nothing further to add at this time.”
