The UK’s retail motor sector could suffer if technical information is not made easily accessible to all businesses, including garages and equipment suppliers, according to Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) chief executive Matthew Carrington.

He said the Block Exemption Regulation requires that vehicle manufacturers make technical information available to all businesses that have a need for it.
“We are contacting all manufacturers, and although they have agreed to provide the information in principle, most have not said how this information will be delivered. It must be in a readily accessible format, and at an affordable price.
“All those working in the retail motor sector need to work together in a co-ordinated basis to solve this problem. The RMI, in collaboration with the GEA, is currently lobbying [the UK government], the European Commission, and enforcement agencies to make technical information available via an accessible format. It is imperative that vehicle manufacturers, stakeholders, and government work with us to find a practical solution.”
