Hyundai’s UK unit is to launch what it believes is an industry-leading aftersales package in a bid to find new customers after the government and automaker-funded scrappage scheme ends here on 31 March.
The innovation is timed to coincide with the UK launch of the new ix35 crossover SUV, replacing the Tucson, and will initially be offered only to buyers of that compact SUV. And company chiefs have confirmed it’s by no means certain the package will spread to other models.

Hyundai is calling the initiative ‘Triple 5’ and it already exists in some European markets as a free offer linked to a new car purchase. It consists of a five-year warranty with no mileage restriction, five years of roadside breakdown cover and five years of what Hyundai UK is calling a ‘healthcheck’.
The latter is potentially the most problematic because it is not servicing. “The idea would be that a free annual check-up would take place between the services, which are every two years,” a Hyundai spokesman told just-auto. “We’re just working out the logistics of it now.”
Hyundai UK managing director Tony Whitehorn said the idea of launching Triple 5 with the ix35 was to see whether it had credibility.
He said: “We need to find out if this works for people. We already had a strong warranty but we wanted to add to it. Will Triple 5 help them decide to choose a Hyundai, or do they choose one anyway and this is a bonus?”
He said the plan would be to introduce the package with other models as they are replaced. The first of these is the updated i30 hatchback and wagon line, due out later this year.
