The campaign is aimed at encouraging disabled drivers to register for a 100% discount from the toll scheme, well before it comes into effect on 17 February.

Holders of the orange/blue ‘disabled badge’ dashtop passes, of which there are over 216,000 in London alone, won’t have to pay to drive into central London as long as their details are pre-registered on or before 24 December. MAGIC is working with Transport for London to gather the data, Ford said.

Registering after 24 December will cost applicants a one-off payment of £10.00, which will also entitle them to unlimited travel in the charging zone.

MAGIC will also be writing to thousands of London-based disabled drivers to tell them how to avoid paying the congestion charge.

A toll-free number has been set up to provide more information for disabled drivers and those on the Motability scheme, which finances cars specially equipped cars for disabled users.
