Ford has made its three millionth small-capacity diesel engine at its Dagenham ‘diesel centre’.  

Production of low-carbon engines started in May 2007 and have been supplied to other automakers as well as Ford.

Output averages 30,000 engines are a month and 365,000 of the small capacity engine were made in 2013. The engine was launched in 1.4- and 1.6-litre forms but the 1.4 was boosted to 1.5-litre last year.

By September 2015 all will comply with the latest Euro-6 emission regulations.

Last year, around 76,000 Ford vehicles sold in the UK were fitted with this small-capacity diesel engine, accounting for around 20% of the brand’s 2013 sales.
