British Gas, which supplies UK homes with natural gas and electricity, and also offers household maintenance and repairs, is offering owners of the newly launched Vauxhall Ampera a fast-charge kit that reduces full charging time by around two hours.
The so-called ‘home charging solution’ includes installation of a home charge point, three year warranty on parts and labour, and a three year ‘home electrical care’ repair/maintenance package for the entire house.

British Gas will provide a free home electrical survey and recommend a suitable home charging system.
The installation will allows the Ampera to draw 16 amps of charge, compared with the regular six or 10 amps normally available in UK homes, reducing the car’s total charging time from six to four hours. When fully charged, the range extender car will be able to travel up to 50 miles on electricity alone.
The package is priced from GBP799 but discounts of up to 75% are available for some homes in areas government-designated as ‘plugged-in places’.
Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall chairman and managing director, said: “We can now guarantee that new owners are assured of the very best advice about safe and efficient charging completely free of charge. It also complements our existing Ampera customer charter by offering customers a bespoke service, allowing them to get the very best from their car.”
