The new Land Rover Discovery, previewed in ‘scoop’ photos in magazines and websites some weeks ago, goes on sale in the UK from 1 June, with minor styling changes, interior revisions and what its maker calls “a number of significant technical enhancements designed to improve both its on- and off-road ability”.

Over 700 changes include a new Land Rover ‘family face’ said to have been inspired by the new Range Rover, new tail lights, front bumper and grille, and new interior trim colours.

Brakes and suspension have been improved and an available centre differential lock is claimed to improve the ageing model’s off-road ability. Refinement and build quality have also been enhanced in what will hopefully be the final ‘Disco’ facelift before an all-new 2004 model appears in a year or so.

UK prices for the new Discovery are unchanged, ranging from £21,995 for the TD5 E to £34,490 for the V8 ES.

Typical last-of-the-line enhancements rear park distance control now standard on ES models and a £250 option on lesser versions.

S versions now have alloy wheels, body coloured bumpers, front fog lights and headlamp power wash.
