Domestic vehicle makers drive growth, with demand up 29.1% in the month.

Overall year-to-date output reaches 2.1 million – a 6.4% uplift on the first 10 months in 2015.

Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said, "Domestic demand drove growth in UK engine output for the 10th consecutive month in October, as multi-billion pound investments in plants to serve Britain's resurgent vehicle manufacturing sector continue to be realised. However, with more than half of all engines built here still exported, it is vital that the competitive conditions that have driven this sector's success – and that of the vehicle manufacturing sector on which it relies – are secured for the future."

According to the QUBE/just-auto database, Tata Motors' luxury vehicle unit Jaguar Land Rover recently expand its UK in-house-developed powertrain family with a four cylinder Ingenium petrol engine now in production (September start) at its GBP1bn Engine Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton.
