Registrations of commercial vehicles in the UK rose 13.9% year on year in November to 33,303 units. There was a 9.6% increase for vans to 29,051 as, the SMMT said, the "long-term growth trend continues".
The truck market saw a 55.8% uplift to 4,252 following the Type Approval-related (tighter emissions laws) downturn in November 2014.
The SMMT said the van registrations rise continued a general trend seen over the past few years with businesses having grown in confidence and online deliveries surging in popularity.
Chief executive Mike Hawes said: "The commercial vehicle market continues to demonstrate phenomenal progress, with sustained growth over a number of years as ever-more confident businesses invest in their fleets.
"The sharp upturn in truck registrations comes as no surprise, given the heavy fall seen in the same month last year – but the long-term trend of robust growth is encouraging."
