Citroën is now launching the Tourer (wagon) variant of the C5 sedan worldwide.

Right-hand drive sales begin here in the UK on 17 June.

Citroen UK, which has been promoting the C5 saloon, launched earlier, as ‘a German car made in France’, reportedly attracting criticism for ‘stereotyping Germans’, said the new wagon is “one of the most luxurious ‘estate’ cars in its class… bringing a fresh new approach to a market where good looking design is often passed over for practicality concerns”.

Available equipment includes self-levelling suspension and a remote control, motorised tailgate. Loading is made simpler with the ability to raise or lower the rear suspension.

Other touches are an (optional) seat-back massage function and a dual-function boot light/rechargeable torch (also a feature on some recent Chryslers) providing a convenient portable light source.

Like the saloon, the new Tourer is based on the upmarket C6’s running gear.

The Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo and Mazda 6 wagons are the C5 Tourer’s key competitors, according to Citroen.

At 4.83m long and 1.48m tall, the Tourer is 5cm longer and 3cm taller than the saloon. Roof bars can be finished in black or silver and dark tinted rear side and tailgate windows that reduce solar glare and thermal penetration for improved passenger comfort are standard in the UK. The load space is 505 litres seats-up and 1500 litres with rear seats fully folded.

A variety of petrol and diesel engines are on offer with both manual and automatic transmissions. UK prices start at GBP16,695 (about $US33,000).
