MG Motor UK parent company [and General Motors and Volkswagen joint venture partner], Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation [SAIC] ended 2010 with a healthy year on year rise in sales with the ‘English’ MG and Roewe brands up 77% to 160,000 units.

SAIC, the biggest automotive company in China, announced full year sales of 3.58m units, up 31.5% on 2009, and a new record. 

Passenger cars sales were up 42% to 2,279,000.

Last year the MG and Roewe brands had outstanding results with sales up 77 per cent to total 160,000. 

British unit MG Motor UK will this year launch the five door, Ford Focus-sized MG6 ‘sports fastback’, the first new MG to be launched in Britain in 16 years, and should add a few thousand units to SAIC’s 2011 tally.

Final assembly of British MG6s will be done at the company’s Longbridge facility near Birmingham.

A new dealer network is currently being developed.
