BMW says that output at its UK Hams Hall engine plant will be ‘increasing significantly’ in 2002 in response to rising demand for BMW brand products.
The Hams Hall facility was officially opened on 8th February 2001 and produces all BMW 4-cylinder petrol engines between 1.6 and 2.0 litres capacity.

The facility built just over 70,000 power-units in its first year of production (against a production target of 60,000 units).
The number of engine variants produced at the plant is expanding. Having begun with the 1.8 litre version of the new generation Valvetronic engines, a 2.0 litre derivative was added last September and the first 1.6 litre engines have just started to leave the factory.
Hams Hall engines are being shipped not only to the BMW vehicle assembly plants in Munich, Regensburg and Dingolfing, but also to the company’s car assembly operation in South Africa (Rosslyn).
