Audi’s UK unit is adding a claimed ‘superfast’ 4G mobile internet connection to its A3 range, starting with the S3 Sportback, with full availability planned from November.
4G/LTE is currently limited to some larger UK cities but is being extended this year. It enables the transfer of large amounts of data, such as music and films in HD quality.

Provided the buyer ticks the option box for ‘MMI Navigation Plus with Audi connect’, 4G/LTE speeds up feature like navigation with Google Earth and Street View, music streaming web radio and online traffic information. It also adds text to speech to Facebook and includes a fuel station locator with distance and pricing information and parking availability and pricing.
The system also requires a SIM card, ideally with flat rate data, which fits in a slot in the glovebox. This creates a wireless network (WLAN) in the car which multiple devices can use at once.
