UK car production rose 9.3% year on year to 94,352 units in April. Of those, 80,936 were exported, up 9.9%.

For the year to the end of April, the country built 495,744 cars, up 11.8% and exported 408,081, up 10.1%.

Commerical vehicle output rose 3.2% to 8,913 last month with 5,782 exported, up 7.8%.

Year to date, production slipped 6.1% to 38,284 and exports were down 9.2% to 23,107.

Year to date engine production was up 1.7% to 890,154 but exports slipped 9.5% to 576,131.

“UK manufacturing of cars, commercial vehicles and engines increased in April, boosted by strong export demand that is almost 10% ahead of last year,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive.

“Sustained investment is delivering desirable products to markets around the world and efforts by employees, trades unions and government are helping ensure the UK remains one of the most competitive locations for global automotive companies.”
