Low volume sports car maker AC Cars, which last month announced an export drive to the USA from its UK facility, will open a research and development facility on the Mediterranean island of Malta in January 2004.

The facility, to be known as AC Advanced Vehicle Technology, will be based at the Kordin Business Incubation Centre in Kordin.


The facility will help development new cars and will share in the development of a new chassis for AC.


AC Cars announced in mid November that it will open an assembly plant in Hal Far, Malta in January 2004. The plant will initially build the Ace and, later, other carbon fibre body models.


AC Advanced Vehicle Technology will bring to Malta various professionals specialising in automotive design, engineering and related subjects to train local employees in their particular area of expertise, transferring technological know-how to the Maltese workforce.
