Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey has increased annual production capacity to 150,000 units, from 100,000 units, at its Adapazari plant with the start of production of the redesigned Corolla Verso minivan.

Employment at TMMT will increase from 2,600 people to over 3,000 by August 2004, while investment for the production capacity increase and the production of the new Corolla Verso will rise by €180 million to €700 million.

TMMT already produces the Corolla sedan and station wagon body types and the new seven-seat Corolla Verso was designed at Toyota’s ED2 design centre in the south of France.

Toyota expects to sell 62,000 Corolla Versos in Europe this year, with sales beginning in May. All body types in the Corolla model line are now manufactured and designed in Europe, where sales reached 221,503 in 2003.

TMMT began a double shift in March 2003, and currently produces one vehicle every two minutes. The factory manufactured 70,000 vehicles in 2003, and exports of the Corolla sedan and wagon reached 34,000 and 29,000 units respectively in 2003 – making Toyota the second-biggest passenger car exporter in Turkey.
