The Turkish Government is not considering restrictions on automobile imports, say local media reports (3/8/00) citing Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit.
Quoting Meral Gezgin Eris, Chairwoman of the Economic Development Foundation, after her meeting with the PM, the reports say that the Government has no plans to restrict automotive imports.

Vehicle imports for the first half of the year reached 106,757 units, an increase of 19 per cent on the year. This figure accounted for 51 per cent of total domestic sales.
Increased consumption after a decline in interest rates, alongside the policy of Turkey`s central bank to slow the depreciation of the lira, are considered factors in the Government decision.
