The top brand for sales in January was Renault with 4,710 vehicles units, followed by Volkswagen at 3,848 units and Ford with 3,671 units.

Local analysts point to a slowdown in the Turkish economy, higher interest rates and exceptionally cold weather as factors behind the weak January sales.

The Turkish vehicle market was up 15% to 911,000 units in 2011, but the second half saw a significant slowdown.
