Chery is reported to be in the final stages of talks with the Turkish authorities over investment in Turkey.

Turkey’s low costs and customs union with the EU make it an attractive option for Chinese OEMs seeking to avoid future punitive EU tariffs applying to BEVs shipped from China.

According to a Reuters report, an anonymous Turkish official confirmed the talks but did not specify any further details.

The report also said Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan had met Chery International President Guibing Zhang in Ankara at the weekend.

In July, BYD agreed with the Turkish government to build a US$1bn production plant in Turkey with annual capacity for 150,000 vehicles.
