Toyota says its Mirai hydrogen fuel cell saloon will be eligible for UK government grant support of GBP5,000 (US$7,600) reducing the purchase price to GBP61,000.
The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) has added Mirai to the list of cars and vans which qualify for the grant, given its zero emissions, with the model the first hydrogen-fuelled model to be featured in the approved list, alongside electric and plug-in vehicles, among them the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

“The first hydrogen-fuelled electric car eligible for the plug-in car grant is a milestone as industry develops low emission technology at pace,” said UK Transport Minister, Andrew Jones.
“The government stands with them all the way, investing GBP500m in electric vehicles over the next five years to position the UK as a world leader.”
Mirai is also available to lease at a monthly cost of GBP750 for a four-year period.
The package includes the vehicle’s hydrogen fuel and routine servicing costs, together with access to a concierge service to deal with customer requirements, including the organisation of servicing and maintenance.
